The city
Old squares and new towers by the sea.
Batumi is the capital of Adjara and a working port on the south-eastern shore of the Black Sea, some 350 km from Tbilisi. Old Batumi keeps its European-style squares and sculptures (Piazza, the Astronomical Clock, the Boy with Pipes in his brick niche), while the newer city rises in glass along the shore, up to the 205-metre Batumi Tower.
The beach months run from June to September, when the sea reaches 21 to 26 °C. Georgia’s tourism board singles out the velvet season of early autumn, warm without the summer heat. Rain falls in every month here, most heavily from September to January.
Arriving
A runway at the edge of town.
Batumi International sits just south of the city, about fifteen minutes from the centre by car. It handled 1.23 million passengers in 2025, and its operator, TAV Airports, doubled the terminal to 8,000 square metres in 2021.
