The city
Recoleta, San Telmo and Palermo.
Recoleta is the city in its formal clothes: grand facades along Avenida Alvear, the Alvear Palace since 1932, and the cemetery where Eva Perón lies among marble mausoleums. To the south, San Telmo keeps its cobbles, its antique dealers and a Sunday fair in Plaza Dorrego. Palermo, to the north, has the parks, the rose garden and many of the best tables.
Buenos Aires is a walking city, and the shoulder seasons suit it best. From September the lapachos and jacarandas flower over the streets, and from March to May the days are mild and clear. Summer is warm and sunny, with carnival in February or March; winter is cool, a season for cafés, bookshops and live music.

Ezeiza for the long haul, San Fernando for the jet.
