The hotel
An old Intourist name, brought back.
In Soviet times Intourist was the state agency that handled every foreign visitor, and it ran its own hotels across the Union. This one opened in Stepantsminda some sixty years ago, under the peaks on the road to the Darial Gorge. It closed in the 1990s, amid the political upheaval that followed Georgian independence, and the name went with it.
A complete renovation reopened it in 2021 under the old name and with the old outline, now clad in wood that suits the forest around it. Rooms face the Kazbegi mountains, and the town hill gives a direct view across the valley to Gergeti Trinity Church on its ridge. Inside there is a library, a restaurant and two bars, and a garden outside. The bus station is a few minutes' walk away.
- The view across the valley From the hillside, rooms and terrace look over to Gergeti Trinity Church and the Kazbegi range.
- Library and garden A library for evenings, and a garden with space for a picnic or a barbecue.
- Two bars A lounge bar and a second bar, with a European à la carte restaurant beside them.
