The hotel
A house of artists in the dunes.
Bahía Vik is the beach house of the three Vik hotels at José Ignacio, built by Carrie and Alex Vik with the Uruguayan architect Marcelo Daglio on Playa Mansa, the calmer side of the point. The main building is glass and slate with clean lines. Fifteen bungalows sit apart in about ten acres of dunes, each built in its own material, from adobe and quincha to Corten steel, zinc and titanium.
Each of the ten suites in the main house was shaped by a different Uruguayan artist and carries that artist's name: a ceramic headboard in Burgos, line drawings across the walls of Escardo, mirrors pressed into the plaster of Pemper. In the restaurant, Zodiaco, Carlos Muzzo painted the zodiac on the walls. Playa Vik is a walk down the beach.
- La Susana The Vik beach restaurant on Playa Mansa, open from December to February, with lunch on the sand.
- The Shack Wellness Yoga, a sauna and cold plunge, massage and sound healing, also used by guests of Playa Vik.
- Four pools One kept for adults, one for families, and the beach a few steps beyond.
Rooms & suites
Suites by artists, bungalows by material.
The ten suites carry the names of the artists who made them; most of the fifteen bungalows take their names from what they are built of.
- Main house Artist suites Ten suites, among them Eva, one of the largest at about 60 square metres.
- In the dunes Bungalows Fifteen, from Quincha and Adobe to Vidrio and Titanio. Piedra has the largest terrace.
- Families Two-bedroom bungalows Some bungalows have two bedrooms, and larger combinations suit families and groups.
