The hotel

Across the road from the Opera.

The Drechsler Palace was designed by Ödön Lechner and Gyula Pártos in a French Renaissance manner and has stood on Andrássy út, facing the State Opera House, for about 140 years. Over the years it held a café spilling onto the street and the Hungarian ballet institute, so that dancers trained across the road from the Opera stage.

W Hotels opened its first Hungarian hotel here on 10 July 2023. The interiors, by Bowler James Brindley and Bánáti + Hartvig, borrow from the ballet and from Hungary's chess tradition. The two top suites follow Swan Lake: the WOW Suite in white, the Extreme WOW Suite in black, with its own DJ booth and a three-tier bar.

  • AWAY Spa Below ground, modelled on the Hungarian bathhouse, with an indoor pool, sauna and whirlpool.
  • Society25 A speakeasy in the basement next to the spa, with eight house cocktails.
  • Andrássy út The State Opera House is directly across the road, on a boulevard listed by UNESCO.
