The PuXuan occupies the upper floors of the Guardian Art Center, a building by Ole Scheeren's Beijing office on Wangfujing, opposite the National Art Museum. The Forbidden City and Jingshan Park lie less than a mile to the west, and Tiananmen Square is about fifteen minutes away on foot. The hotel joined The Leading Hotels of the World in 2018, with 92 rooms and 24 suites, and the PuXuan Club sits on the eighth floor.

It is run by Urban Resort Concepts, the group behind The PuLi in Shanghai. MQ Studio of Shanghai designed the interiors in warm natural colours, with furniture by Shang Xia and Chinese art and craft throughout. The outside is restrained and modern; the rooms are softer, in plush textures. Lighting is by The Flaming Beacon.
