The hotel

A mansion beside the Audiencia.

Sucre was the seat of the Audiencia de La Plata, the Spanish court that governed this part of the empire. The Parador was built in the second half of the eighteenth century around rooms and the orchard of the Audiencia's palace, and later decades added their own details as silver money reached the city. The house stands on Calle Bolívar, near Plaza 25 de Mayo, with rooms arranged round an inner courtyard over three floors.

The house fell into disrepair before its restoration. During the works, early this century, builders found underground passages beneath it; the vaults now hold the restaurant and a small museum of what was dug up. Carved doors and shutters, arches and stone walls were kept, and every room is furnished with antiques, restored for modern use. On the top floor a small spa and gym open onto a roof terrace with an outdoor hot tub.

  • The cellars Dinner under vaulted ceilings below the house, hung with local art, with live music on some evenings.
  • The roof A terrace over the city rooftops, with an outdoor hot tub, and a small spa with a sauna and a massage room.
  • The museum Objects found when the passages under the house were opened, shown in the vaults.
