The hotel
Four centuries on Calle Calvo.
The plot first appears in the records in 1596, when it belonged to Leonarda de la Cuba and was known as El Solar. By 1689 its houses were described as so old they were falling down. Around 1910 the owners rebuilt it in the republican style, with tall pillars and galleries around the patio, and in later years it was divided among several families.
Dick Commandeur, a Dutchman living in Sucre, and his wife María Teresa Molina bought the house in 2004 and turned it into a hotel between 2005 and 2009. Stripping the plaster revealed older doors and windows, which they restored. The republican patio and the thick colonial walls stayed, and a third floor went into the attic. Commandeur then wrote the house's history in a book, a walk through Sucre told from this address, which is sold at reception.
- The patio The republican courtyard with its fountain and tall pillars, and a garden behind it that the restoration made larger.
- A roof terrace Terraces look over the old town and the Santa Clara museum, a short walk from Plaza 25 de Mayo.
- Sauna and gym A fitness room in the old basement, with a sauna and a steam room.
