The hotel
The Austrian delegation's house.
The hotel joins two buildings on Akadémia utca in Lipótváros, a street that runs parallel to the Danube. Number 15, the older, is a neoclassical house of 1847, built around an inner courtyard and lived in as flats until the 1920s. Number 17 went up in 1894, under Franz Joseph, to designs by Alfred Foltz, as the seat of the Austrian delegation in Budapest. Today the two hold 107 rooms under the Eurostars name.
After the empire fell, the house on number 17 changed hands with the politics of the day: it was the headquarters of the national socialist party from 1938 to 1939 and of the communist party from 1945 to 1956. The restoration brought back the three-part carriage entrance, lost after the empire, and the candelabra of 1896 on the main staircase. Empress Elisabeth runs through the interiors: her portraits hang in the bedrooms and the main hall carries her name.
- The spa A vitality pool with hydromassage jets, a dry sauna, a steam room and a place to rest, open from 1 pm to 9 pm by reservation.
- Sisi's hall The main hall is named after Empress Elisabeth, and Austro-Hungarian imperial shields decorate the ceilings.
- Near the river Akadémia utca runs parallel to the Danube in Lipótváros, between the Parliament and the Chain Bridge.
