The hotel
A bank turned into a music hotel.
The Aria opened in 2015 inside a nineteenth-century bank building on Hercegprímás utca, a few steps from St Stephen's Basilica. The architect Zsolt Szécsi clad it in limestone and the designer Zoltán Varró worked out the interiors, which run from the lobby up to the rooftop bar. It is part of the Library Hotel Collection, and the building rises seven storeys to a roof garden and terraces.
Here the theme is music. The building is split into four wings, Classical, Opera, Contemporary and Jazz, each with its own lift, and the suites take the names of operas. Live music plays in the Music Garden, the courtyard at the centre, every evening, and Satchmo's bar keeps a mirrored wall signed by visiting players. In 2017 TripAdvisor travellers voted it the best hotel in the world.
- Wine and cheese at four A reception in the Music Garden from 4 to 6 pm each day, included in the rate along with breakfast and the spa.
- High Note SkyBar A rooftop bar over the Basilica, open all year; in winter it closes into two glass pavilions.
- Harmony Spa An indoor pool of about ten metres, a jacuzzi, Finnish and infrared saunas, and three treatment rooms, one for couples.
