The hotel
Two families and eight centuries.
The castle goes back to the twelfth century. It belonged to the Del Nero, a Florentine family, and from 1825 to the Torrigiani, whose crests still hang in the halls alongside Renaissance paintings. The estate around it covers some three hundred hectares of vineyards and olive groves near Tavarnelle, in the Chianti hills between Florence and Siena.
COMO Hotels took over in 2019 and asked the designer Paola Navone to rework the interiors. Rooms keep their beamed ceilings and terracotta floors, and the Heritage Suites have frescoes from the eighteenth century and open fireplaces. The old kitchens are now La Taverna, and the twelfth-century cellar is used for wine tastings.
- COMO Shambhala The group's only Shambhala Retreat in continental Europe, with treatments drawn from Asian traditions, yoga and qigong.
- La Torre Giovanni Luca Di Pirro's dining room, holding one MICHELIN star for twelve years in a row, cooking with vegetables from the estate.
- The estate Vineyards, olive groves and an outdoor pool in season, with Florence and Siena each within a day trip.
