The hotel

Since 1979 in the Diplomatic Area.

The hotel opened in January 1979 as the Holiday Inn Bahrain, owned by the Bahrain Tourism Company. In 1995 the Bahrain Conference Centre was built alongside it, with 2,000 square metres of floor space. A refurbishment began in November 1999 and ran for three years, and in December 2002 the hotel took the Crowne Plaza name. The renaming made it the thirteenth Crowne Plaza in the Middle East and Africa. It has grown since to 278 rooms.

Its general manager calls it one of the earliest business hotels in the kingdom, and the setting explains it: embassies and banks all around, Bahrain Financial Harbour close by, the National Museum and the National Theatre close by on the waterfront. The pool sits in landscaped gardens, with a terrace bar looking over it. Waves, the seafood restaurant, was relaunched in 2022.
