The hotel
Where the Twin Dolphin stood.
In 1977 the Texas oilman David J. Halliburton Sr. opened the Twin Dolphin Hotel on Santa María Bay, a hideaway that drew Elizabeth Taylor, Bing Crosby and John Wayne. The land became the 1,400-acre Twin Dolphin community, and in 2018 Montage opened its first resort outside the United States on 39 acres of its beachfront, designed by Robert Glazier with the studio Bernardi + Peschard.
The bay below holds a Blue Flag, and guests walk down to swim, dive and snorkel straight from the sand. Above it sit 122 rooms, suites and casas, 52 residences, a spa of 40,000 square feet with its own serenity pool, and a golf course designed by Fred Couples. Forbes Travel Guide rates the resort Five-Star, and the MICHELIN Guide gave it two Keys in its 2026 Mexico selection.
- Santa María Bay A Blue Flag beach for six years running, with swimming, snorkelling and diving from the resort.
- Spa Montage 40,000 square feet, twelve treatment rooms and a serenity pool of its own.
- Golf and Paintbox The Twin Dolphin course by Fred Couples, and Paintbox, the supervised club for children aged 5 to 12.
