The hotel

On the beach across from Delos.

Agios Ioannis lies on the west coast of the island, about four kilometres from Mykonos Town. The beach takes its name from the small church on the hill above it, and scenes of the 1989 film Shirley Valentine were shot on its sand. Across the channel lies Delos, the sacred island of antiquity, close enough to make out from the beach. The hotel stands right on the sand, a short drive from the Chora.

The hotel spreads over five acres running down to the water. Its buildings follow the island style, whitewashed with blue shutters, and the rooms keep the Mykonian arch and floors of Greek marble. A stone amphitheatre is used for yoga and Pilates, and the Althea Spa has a thalasso pool set into a half cave. The resort opens for the summer and closes from November to April.

  • The beach A sandy beach reserved for hotel guests, with no water sports to break the calm.
  • Althea Spa Retreat More than 8,000 square feet at ground level, with shaded courtyards and a semi-cave thalasso pool.
  • Bolla Bar Signature cocktails in the evening, and a telescope for looking out across the water.
