The hotel
A hotel built into the rock.
Cavo Tagoo was built in 1984 on the cliff at Tagoo, just north of Mykonos Town, and remodelled in 2009. Liakos Architects stacked the white buildings down the rock towards the sea, and in some rooms the natural stone has been left inside as part of the wall. The materials are stone, wood and bamboo, with pale blues and pinks.
The rooms face west over the Aegean, so the evening belongs to the pool deck, where a long seawater infinity pool runs along the cliff with an aquarium in the bar. The Chora is about 600 metres away. The hotel now has a sister in Santorini, and Zuma stands just beyond the main buildings.
- The seawater pool An infinity pool of about 38 metres along the cliff, facing west, with an aquarium set into the bar.
- Pools of your own Cave suites and villas of up to three bedrooms come with private pools, some carved into the rock.
- Into town A free shuttle runs to the Chora around the clock, which helps: the cliff road has no pavement.

Good to know
Before you go.
- Walking Town is ten minutes on foot, but the road along the cliff has no pavement and little light at night. Use the shuttle after dark.
- Extras The concierge books yachts, helicopters and transfers.
Getting there
Flying to Mykonos.
Mykonos airport is about 4 kilometres away, roughly ten minutes by car; both figures are our estimate. In summer, direct flights arrive from much of Europe, and Athens is a short connection all year. Private jets land at the same airport, where in July and August parking is tight and aircraft often drop their passengers and reposition.
- Athens 30 min
- Nice 2 h 30
- Geneva 2 h 45
- Paris 3 h 15
- London 3 h 40
