The hotel
A mansion, a garden and a family.
The land was a farming estate on the edge of the Chora in the 1850s, and the Ioannidis family still owns it. Mansion Stoupa went up here in 1920; the hotel grew around it and kept the garden of bougainvillea. Early guests came from the School of Fine Arts next door, and the family dates its welcome to 1969. In 1998 the children of the founders took over.
Matsuhisa arrived as a summer pop-up in 2003 and stayed. Between 2006 and 2010 the architect Domna Ioannidis led a renovation that kept the Cycladic lines, and a spa followed in 2015. Hilltop Rooms & Suites opened in 2019, about 250 metres from the main house, and a new private passage now leads straight into town.
- Matsuhisa Mykonos Nobu Matsuhisa's Japanese and Peruvian cooking, in the garden beside the pool since 2003.
- The Pool Club The infinity pool at the centre of the main complex, with lunch and cocktails by day. Tables are laid for dinner from late afternoon.
- On foot to town Little Venice, the Kato Mili windmills and the old port are all a walk of a few minutes downhill.

Getting there
Flying to Mykonos.
Mykonos airport is about 2.5 kilometres away, some ten minutes by car by our estimate. In summer, direct flights arrive from much of Europe, and Athens is a short connection all year. Private jets land at the same airport, where in July and August parking is tight and aircraft often drop their passengers and reposition.
- Athens 30 min
- Nice 2 h 30
- Geneva 2 h 45
- Paris 3 h 15
- London 3 h 40
