The hotel

A village by the bay.

Sharq was built as a Qatari village, its lanes, or sikkas, running between courtyards, gardens and fountains over almost ten hectares at Ras Bu Abboud. Arab Engineering Bureau, the practice of Ibrahim Jaidah, drew its nineteen buildings, and DiLeonardo did the interiors. Inside there are ceilings of Qatari wood and woven palm, carved doors, inlaid brass, pebbled glass, stone carving, marble and handmade carpets.

The resort opened in March 2007, owned today by Katara Hospitality and run by Ritz-Carlton. The rooms sit in whitewashed two-storey houses with terraces over the gardens, the pool or the sea, and the largest, the Royal Villa, covers 2,099 square metres. The spa, developed with Six Senses, was designed like a souq, and the shore in front is a natural beach, a kilometre long, about fifteen minutes from the city centre.

  • The spa 6,500 square metres built like a Qatari souq, with 23 treatment rooms, a separate ladies' spa, plunge pools, steam and sauna.
  • The beach A kilometre of natural private shore, with an infinity pool and pool bar above it.
  • Parisa Persian cooking in a dining room looking over Doha Bay.
