The hotel
An island off an island.
The Pearl is a man-made island of some four hundred hectares some 330 metres off the coast, and Marsa Malaz is a smaller island of its own within it, facing a private bay. The hotel was built as a palace: domes, tall arches and a bronze horse waiting where the cars pull up. The Pearl around it holds marinas, shops and apartments, and the hotel looks out over Costa Malaz Bay.
Kempinski opened it on 7 January 2015. The rooms are large, from about 75 square metres, done in muted desert tones on the lines of a Qatari palace, and each has a balcony or terrace over the Gulf or The Pearl. There is also a ballroom of 1,100 square metres, seven restaurants with bars and lounges, a kids' club, and the Spa by Clarins, about 3,000 square metres.
- Spa by Clarins About 3,000 square metres, with 23 treatment rooms and a private hammam.
- The beach A private beach of nearly 150 metres in its own bay, with outdoor pools and a tennis court.
- The Secret Garden A rooftop bar open from late October to May, the cooler months.
