The hotel
Chrome trees near the souq.
Banyan Tree opened in Doha in May 2021, its first hotel in Qatar and the first the group runs with Accor in the Middle East. The tower is part of a new development near Souq Waqif that also holds a department store, an indoor theme park and a cinema, and a garden of more than 130 trees, the banyan among them. It also holds serviced residences for longer stays.
The French decorator Jacques Garcia did the interiors. The lobby is silver, with sculpted gunmetal trees and chrome walls. Upstairs the rooms are minimal, with lantern-shaped lamps and glass inspired by Islamic art. Il Galante sits on the twenty-sixth floor, and two floors higher Vertigo, the rooftop lounge, which the MICHELIN Guide calls the highest in the area, with views all round.
- Vertigo The lounge and bar on the twenty-eighth floor, with a view all round over the old city and the Gulf.
- The spa Separate areas for men and women, a Rainforest with a rain walk, a herbal sauna, a brine steam room and a vitality pool.
- Next door The hotel is joined to a department store, an indoor theme park and a cinema, with Souq Waqif close by.
