The hotel
A chessboard on Budapester Strasse.
The American architects William Pereira and Charles Luckman designed the building in 1958, and its chessboard façade is now protected as a monument. It reopened as the InterContinental Berlin in 1978, in the embassy quarter between the Kurfürstendamm and Potsdamer Platz, with the zoo and the Tiergarten close by. Today it has 558 rooms, 60 of them suites, spread over twelve floors.
Alfred Hitchcock, Michael Jackson and Presidents George Bush and Joe Biden have all stayed. The Presidential Suite, finished in 1998 with bulletproof windows, doors and walls, had Bill Clinton as its first guest. Between 2019 and 2023 the hotel was refurbished wing by wing while it stayed open, with a new club lounge and a remodelled Marlene bar. Hugos, on the fourteenth floor, has held a MICHELIN star since 1999.
- Hugos One MICHELIN star without a break since 1999, fourteen floors up with a view over the city. Johannes Gehrich has led the kitchen since late 2025.
- SPA InterContinental One of the largest wellness areas in Berlin, with a heated indoor pool, saunas, massage and a terrace for summer.
- Club InterContinental Seventy rooms and suites on the club floor, with the club lounge opened during the refurbishment.
