The hotel
A family hotel on the Passeig de Gràcia.
Ercole Cacciami, a Piedmontese hotelier who had opened the Hotel Inglaterra in 1897, opened the Majestic Hotel Inglaterra on 28 April 1918, with a party much reported in the city. He sold it soon after to Martín Casals Galcerán. During the Civil War the poet Antonio Machado stayed here, along with foreign correspondents reporting on the Ebro, and afterwards the hotel became simply the Majestic.
From 1963 Casals's daughter María Esperanza and her husband Oleguer Soldevila ran it and added a new building in the 1970s. A long refurbishment followed the 1992 Olympics, and in 1996 the political agreement known as the Majestic Pact was signed here. Today the hotel holds a collection of about a thousand works of modern art, and its rooms were recently redone in muted whites.
- La Dolce Vitae The rooftop restaurant and bar beside the pool, for cocktails and tapas as the sun goes down over the city.
- The art Around a thousand pieces, with works by Antoni Tàpies, Josep Guinovart and Anish Kapoor.
- Majestic Spa Natura Bissé facials, massages, body wraps and a hydrotherapy circuit.
