The hotel
A prince's house in a hill village.
Prince Wilhelm of Sweden came to Èze in the 1920s and bought the village houses one by one, until they became his Prince of Sweden's castle. He had fallen for the setting, a thousand-year-old village on its rock, and wrote several books there. In 1953 he went home to Sweden for good, and the houses were sold off again one at a time.
In the late 1970s André Rochat, a Geneva diplomat, put the place back together house by house. Château Eza still spreads across several old houses joined by the lanes of the village, which no car can enter. The walls are bare stone, many rooms have a fireplace, and the cactus garden of Èze sits among the ruins of the medieval fortress above.
- The restaurant Justin Schmitt has run the kitchen since April 2022 and won a MICHELIN star in March 2023. Two dining rooms seat 38, and the dining room and terrace both look over the sea.
- Suite with a view The largest suite has a hot tub on its terrace, with a wide panorama over the sea.
- Two bars A cocktail bar facing the sea, and a lounge bar with an open fire for cooler evenings.
