The hotel
An independent house in Monte-Carlo.
The Monte-Carlo Hotel Company bought the land in 1886, and the Métropole opened three years later, an Italianate mansion of the Belle Époque reached by a cobbled drive lined with cypresses. In the 1980s the developer Nabil Boustany bought and restored it as the Metropole Palace. A second restoration began in the autumn of 2003, and it reopened in the summer of 2004 under its present name.
Jacques Garcia designed the rooms and public spaces, with velvet, brocade and a glass-domed lobby, and returned in 2023 for the dining room of Les Ambassadeurs. Karl Lagerfeld drew the pool area, Odyssey, in 2012, and the Suite Carré d'Or on the roof was revived in 2019. Christophe Cussac, here since 2004, oversees the kitchens. The hotel stays independent, outside the group that owns the Casino and the Hôtel de Paris.
- Les Ambassadeurs Christophe Cussac, at the Métropole since 2004, opened his own restaurant here in July 2023. It won two MICHELIN stars nine months later.
- Odyssey by Karl Lagerfeld A heated seawater pool framed by glass screens printed with scenes from a Greek myth, enclosed in autumn and winter so guests can swim all year.
- Spa Métropole by Guerlain Treatments, sauna, steam room and gym.
