The hotel
A prince's house on the Seine.
Prince Roland Bonaparte, a grand-nephew of Napoleon, built his house on the avenue d'Iéna between 1892 and 1896. It looks straight across the Seine to the Eiffel Tower, finished only a few years earlier, and today nearly half the rooms face it. The building has been a listed historic monument since 2009, and four of its historic salons are still used for receptions.
Shangri-La spent four years restoring it and opened its first hotel in Europe here on 17 December 2010, with 81 rooms; there are 100 today. During the work, a glass cupola in the style of the Eiffel Tower was uncovered and restored. Pierre-Yves Rochon designed the rooms one by one. The hotel now holds the Palace distinction, the highest French classification.
- The Eiffel Tower view Nearly half the rooms face the tower, and some come with a terrace over the river.
- Chi, The Spa The hotel spa, with a 15-metre pool lit by daylight and a health club.
- Le Bar Botaniste The hotel bar, where a bottle of Champagne is opened with a sabre every evening.
