The hotel
Scholars, a club, then a hotel.
The house went up between 1890 and 1892 on the edge of the Bois de Boulogne, on ground where Paris had kept its first balloon field. It was built for the Fondation Thiers, which lodged gifted young scholars here for three years at a time. The Institut de France owned it until the mid 1980s, when the building was sold in poor repair.
It then became the Paris house of the Saint James Club, and part of it was turned into a hotel in the 1990s. The club survives, with its own members. Laura Gonzalez has since redone the interiors with Japanese papers, Chinese antiques and French furniture, and Xavier de Chirac replanted the garden. A Guerlain spa takes up two floors, and the house belongs to Relais & Châteaux.
- The garden About 5,000 square metres inside the wall, laid out by Xavier de Chirac so that something flowers or scents the air in every season.
- Guerlain spa More than 400 square metres over two floors, with a 15-metre pool under a glass roof, a sauna, a hammam and a gym.
- A private club The Saint James Club still has its members here. The house calls itself a private club as well as a hotel.

From a boudoir to a pavilion of its own.
