The hotel
Named after a travelling earl.
In 1923 Hippolyte Jammet bought the former house of Jules de Castellane on the Faubourg Saint-Honoré, the street of the Élysée Palace. He named his hotel after Frederick Hervey, 4th Earl of Bristol, a bishop known for travelling in comfort, and opened it in April 1925. In June 1940 the American Embassy moved in, and Jammet kept the building from being requisitioned.
Rudolf Oetker bought Le Bristol in 1978. Two years later it grew onto the site of an old convent, and Professor Pinnau, who designed Onassis's yacht, drew the pool on the sixth floor. The Matignon wing followed in 2009. In 2011 Le Bristol became the first hotel in France to receive the Palace distinction, and it celebrated its centenary in 2025. Since 2007 the garden has also hosted sculpture exhibitions.
- The French garden A courtyard garden at the heart of the hotel, with Epicure's dining terrace opening onto it in summer.
- The pool on the roof A glassed pool on the sixth floor, shaped like a ship's prow, with Montmartre and the Paris rooftops beyond the windows.
- Spa Le Bristol by La Mer The hotel spa, run with the skincare house La Mer.
