The hotel
An Art Deco hotel built for Americans.
The American Joel Hillman paid for the hotel and Georges Wybo designed it. It opened in 1928 on the avenue George V, with a booking office in Cherbourg to catch passengers off the liners. The crash of 1929 forced Hillman to sell. In 1931 the financier François Dupré bought it and filled the salons with Flemish tapestries, furniture by Boulle and paintings by Renoir and Raoul Dufy.
Four Seasons took it over, closed it for two years and reopened it on 18 December 1999. The Art Deco shell now holds Louis XV style rooms redesigned by Pierre-Yves Rochon, a spa with a 17-metre pool, and a cellar of some 50,000 bottles. Its three restaurants share six MICHELIN stars between them, and in 2026 the hotel holds three Keys, the guide's highest award.
- Le Cinq Christian Le Squer's dining room has held three MICHELIN stars for ten years running.
- The flowers Jeff Leatham, the hotel's artistic director, fills the halls, lounges and staircases with thousands of flowers.
- The spa An indoor pool of 17 metres, a hammam, a sauna and a gym under the hotel.
