The hotel
A notable's house inside the walls.
A local notable built the house in the early 1930s, inside the medina walls below the Koutoubia. The hotel now joins two residences of that period around a pair of courtyards: one around an 18-metre pool, the other around a fountain and seating. The plaster ceilings are carved, the floors are laid in bejmat tiles and the pillars are finished in tadelakt, the polished lime plaster of Marrakech.
The house has been a hotel for more than twenty-five years and joined Relais & Châteaux in 2001. A recent restoration, overseen by the Paris studio Studio KO and by Aire au Carré, kept the work of the craftsmen and added a large hammam modelled on Roman baths. Antiquities and contemporary art hang side by side in the salons, and a wood fire burns in the lounge in winter.
- Three pools The 18-metre pool in the main courtyard, a pool in the private riad and a green pool on the roof, all heated in season.
- The hammam About sixty square metres at the heart of the spa, with three treatment rooms and an orange-blossom ritual of its own.
- The roof terrace A bar above the medina, with the minarets close by and the Atlas on the horizon.
