The hotel
Auberge's first hotel outside the United States.
Esperanza opened in 2002 on the headland of Punta Ballena, about four miles from Cabo San Lucas. It was the second hotel in the Auberge collection and the first beyond the United States. The casitas sit on the cliffs above two private coves, close to the point where the Pacific and the Sea of Cortez meet. Each one has its own terrace facing the water.
Hurricane Odile hit the coast in 2014. The resort reopened in June 2015 after a full renovation: Mary Alice Palmer of Roam Interior Design chose sandy neutrals, driftwood, palapa roofs and Mexican craftwork, and the landscape architect George Girvin reworked the grounds. The rooms were refreshed again in 2025. Privately owned villas and residences surround the hotel, and Forbes Travel Guide rates it Five-Star.
- Cocina del Mar The signature restaurant is set into the bluffs of Punta Ballena, with a tasting menu and the Sea of Cortez below.
- Pools over the sea A multi-tiered pool on the ocean side and an infinity pool, and four pools for families.
- The spa Nine treatment rooms and a menu drawn from the Mayan Medicine Wheel, entered under a palapa beside a koi pond.

Questions
What guests ask first.
- How many MICHELIN Keys does Esperanza have?
- Two, in the 2026 selection for Mexico. Chileno Bay, its sister resort along the coast, holds two as well.
- Can you swim at the beach at Esperanza?
- Not really. The two coves are private, but the shore is rocky and the waves unpredictable, so most guests swim in the pools.
- Are pets allowed at Esperanza?
- Yes, for a fee per stay. Pets must be on a lead and are kept out of the restaurants and pool areas.
- Can SkyCourtage arrange the flight to Los Cabos?
- Yes. We arrange Business and First Class seats on scheduled airlines and private jet charter to Los Cabos, with one final price, our margin included. The hotel is booked with the hotel or through our booking partner.
