The hotel

A bay hotel since 1944.

Emilio Guimoye founded the first Hotel Paracas on the bay in 1944, some 240 km south of Lima, beside the desert that is now the Paracas National Reserve. The earthquake of August 2007 left it badly damaged. Of the old hotel only the boat dock was kept, and the owners, the Peruvian group Libertador, built a new resort around it under a franchise with Starwood.

The new hotel opened in November 2009 as the first Luxury Collection resort in Peru. The Peruvian architect Bernardo Fort-Brescia laid out white two-storey bungalows among gardens, with bamboo on the walls, wood floors and stone bathrooms. The design draws on the petroglyphs and weavings of the pre-Inca peoples of this coast. Boats for the Ballestas Islands leave from the hotel's own dock.

  • The yacht A 52-foot yacht takes guests to the Ballestas Islands for sea lions and Humboldt penguins, or out fishing.
  • AQU Spa A spa of 547 square metres, with a thermal circuit of jacuzzi, hydromassage pool and chromotherapy shower, and treatments using Andean ingredients such as grape.
  • Chalana A seafood restaurant floating at the end of the pier, with cooking classes.

All 120 rooms and suites have a furnished terrace or balcony, over the bay or the gardens, and some terraces have a plunge pool.
