The hotel
A family hotel since 1984.
Eleni Skalbania was born on Santorini, grew up in Athens and came to Canada in the 1950s. She turned round the Devonshire Hotel from 1977 and later co-owned the Hotel Georgia. In 1984 she bought the old Mayfair Apartment Hotel near the Vancouver Court House and made it the Wedgewood. It opened that summer with 83 rooms, and the 4th Baron Wedgwood attended the opening.
Her daughters run it now. Elpie Marinakis joined full time in 1994 and is managing director; Marousa Dumaresq, trained as an architect, has been an owner and director since 2013. The lobby keeps antiques, Persian rugs and a carved stone desk. The Wedgewood is the only Relais & Châteaux house in Vancouver and one of three hotels in the city with a MICHELIN Key.
- Bacchus European cooking with West Coast produce, high tea at weekends, and a piano lounge of Murano glass and carved limestone with live music every night.
