The hotel
An old family house on the hill.
Les Armures stands on the hill of the Old Town, on Rue du Puits-Saint-Pierre, with Maison Tavel next door and St Pierre Cathedral a minute away. The building dates from the seventeenth century and was long a family home. Inside, the old stone walls, wooden beams and painted ceilings have been kept, and the rooms around them are plainly contemporary.
Its restaurant is described as the oldest in Geneva. The menu stays Swiss: veal in cream sauce the Zurich way, grilled Schüblig sausage from St Gallen, perch fillets and fondue of Vacherin and Gruyère, with raclette in the vaulted carnotzet below. John F. Kennedy and Bill Clinton both stayed here. The lake, the shops and the business district are all about five minutes' walk away.
- The carnotzet A vaulted room for raclette and fondue, the rustic corner of the house.
- The Old Town at the door St Pierre Cathedral, Maison Tavel and the lanes of the upper town are all within a few steps.
- A terrace in summer Tables outside in the shade of the Old Town, and a wine bar of the hotel's own.
