The hotel
One family since 1865.
Albertine and Jean-Jacques Mayer opened the Beau-Rivage in 1865, and their descendants still run it, and the hotel has never left independent hands. History came through the door often. The Duke of Brunswick died here in 1873 and left his fortune to Geneva. In 1898 Empress Elisabeth of Austria was stabbed on the quay outside and carried back to the hotel, where she died.
In 1918 the independence of Czechoslovakia was signed under this roof. The building keeps its period floors, which creak, and the frescoed ceilings in some of the suites. Pierre-Yves Rochon renewed the interiors without stripping them, and suites carry the names of guests such as Sissi, Charles de Gaulle and Elizabeth Taylor. Kofi Annan put it simply: there are luxury hotels, and then there is the Beau-Rivage.
- The Jet d'Eau in the window The lake rooms and suites look straight across the bay at the fountain, with the Old Town on the far shore.
- Rooftop junior suites A top-floor junior suite of 50 square metres comes with a terrace, a Jacuzzi and a view of the mountains.
- The wine cellar Tastings are held in the hotel's own cellar, with wines that also go to the tables at Rivage Café.
