The hotel
A ski hill above a reservoir.
The hotel stands on the shore of the Horný hodrušský tajch, one of the artificial lakes in the hills around Banská Štiavnica, about twelve kilometres from the town by road. In summer the beach in front of the hotel is for swimming; there are tennis courts, a pump track, and bikes and e-bikes to rent. The restaurant cooks breakfast and dinner from local, seasonal produce.
In winter the Salamandra ski area takes over. A four-seat express chairlift with weather hoods climbs from 579 to 850 metres, and a single run of about 1.4 kilometres comes back down, covered with artificial snow. A children's tow, a ski school and a skating rink sit at the bottom, and more than ten kilometres of cross-country trails start from the top station.

Flying to Banská Štiavnica.
Sliač, the nearest airfield, has been closed to civilian traffic since 2021, so scheduled flights and private jets land at Bratislava. From there it is about an hour and forty minutes by car to the lake.
