The hotel

A mining engineer's brewery on the square.

Eduard Rada trained as a mining engineer and made his name as a brewer. With his wife Mária he bought four derelict houses in the centre of Banská Štiavnica, all national cultural monuments, and fitted a Bavarian brewhouse into three of them. Brewing began in the summer of 2010. ERB stands for Eduard Rada Breweries, and also nods to the old mine workings under the buildings.

A restaurant with a beer sommelier and a theatre in the attic came first. Work on the hotel started in 2016, and Rada saw it finished shortly before he died in May 2022. His wife, daughter and son-in-law now run brewery and hotel together. Below ground there is parking, and from the garage you can look into an old mine adit.

Flying to Banská Štiavnica.

Sliač, the nearest airfield, is closed to civilian traffic, so scheduled flights and private jets land at Bratislava. The drive east through the hills takes about one hour and fifty minutes.
