The hotel

Thirty years of building on the Maigue.

The second Earl of Dunraven began rebuilding the family house in 1832, and it took thirty years. The Pain brothers drew the first plans, then lost the job; the earl carried on with Lewis Cottingham, while Augustus Pugin designed interiors including the great hall from 1846. Philip Hardwick finished the south and west fronts, and the house was complete in 1862. Local men built it through the Famine years.

The seventh earl sold it in 1982, and five years later it became a hotel with a golf course. J. P. McManus, the Limerick businessman, bought it in 2015 and renovated it from top to bottom in 2016 and 2017, after auctioning much of the old hotel's contents. Tom Fazio rebuilt the course, which hosts the Ryder Cup from 13 to 19 September 2027. The village of Adare is a fifteen-minute walk away.

  • The Ryder Cup course Tom Fazio's redesign of the Robert Trent Jones layout, which hosted the Irish Open in 2007 and 2008 and takes the Ryder Cup in 2027.
  • Country pursuits Falconry, riding, fishing and clay pigeon shooting on the 840-acre estate.
  • Under the roof A 27-seat cinema, a spa with a pool of 26 feet, and afternoon tea in The Gallery.
