The hotel
Festival nights on the Goldgasse.
The Goldgasse is a narrow lane of the old town beside the Getreidegasse, a short walk from the cathedral and the university. A coppersmith worked at number 10 in 1573, and the house is about seven hundred years old. It opened as a hotel in 2015, keeping its stucco and old stone floors under a modern fit-out. Downstairs, Gasthof Goldgasse reworks Austrian classics and serves Salzburg specialities at breakfast.
Every one of the sixteen rooms is given to a different Salzburg Festival production. Wall-sized prints by Luigi Caputo, the festival's photographer, show the star casts of past performances. In 2024 the MICHELIN Guide gave the house a Key, making it the only four-star hotel in Salzburg to hold one, and it kept the Key in 2026. The Roof Terrace Suite, a maisonette at the top, looks out across the old town.
- The festival rooms Each room takes one festival production as its theme, hung with large stage photographs by Luigi Caputo.
- Gasthof Goldgasse The restaurant on the ground floor sits between a tavern and a fine dining room, reworking Austrian classics; it holds a Gault&Millau toque.
- In the old town The cathedral, the university and the Getreidegasse are all a short walk from the door.
