The hotel
A ruin, kept as it was found.
The house dates from the sixteenth century and began as a private residence in the oldest part of Mérida, one block from the main square. It is a listed monument. When Grupo Habita, a Mexican group with fifteen hotels, found it about seven years before opening, it was close to collapse. The back of the plot had once held horses and stores.
The Berlin and Mexico City studio Zeller & Moye left the weathered walls and arches as they stood and set new rooms of concrete and brass beside them. The rooms facing the street became shops. Grupo Habita opened the hotel at the start of 2026, and the MICHELIN Guide gave it a Key in the same year. Two pools, a spa and a small bistro now fill the spaces behind the old rooms.
- Two courtyards An outdoor cantina under almond trees in the main patio, and a second, more private courtyard in the rear annex around a large concrete pool.
- The spa A Tuj steam room, a modern take on the Maya sweat bath, and a round cold plunge built to feel like a cave.
- Dinner upstairs A bistro of 24 seats on the upper floor, with French and Mexican breakfasts and a set dinner that changes daily.
