The hotel
A beach at the tip of the point.
Pointe du Bout is the finger of land that closes the bay of Fort-de-France on its southern side, with the marina and the beach of Anse Mitan close by. The Bakoua takes the end of it. Its rooms sit in Creole-style buildings of two or three floors, set among gardens that run down to the sand, and nearly every one has a balcony or porch.
The hotel calls its style colonial, and one tour operator traces the house back to a family of the Compagnie des Indes. The MICHELIN Guide keeps it in its selection for the setting more than the rooms, and singles out the bar: a thatched hut on stilts at the end of a pier, with the sea under the floor and the lights of the capital across the water.
- Coco Bar The thatched bar on stilts at the end of the jetty, open by day for drinks and light plates over the water.
- The beach A strip of sand of the hotel's own on the Caribbean side, with loungers and towels laid out, and a water sports centre for paddle, kayak and jet ski.
- The garden pool An overflow pool in a tropical garden, with a floodlit tennis court and a pétanque pitch nearby.
