The hotel
On the edge of Cabrits National Park.
The resort opened in October 2019 as Cabrits Resort & Spa Kempinski, billed at the time as Dominica's first true five-star hotel, a few months before the pandemic. In 2023 it reopened as an InterContinental, the brand's first hotel in the English-speaking Caribbean. The developer is Range Developments, which built it on land at the edge of the park, facing the bay.
It sits on a black-sand beach on Douglas Bay, at the northern tip of the island. Behind it rise the wooded hills of Cabrits National Park, with the remains of an eighteenth-century fort a short drive away. Portsmouth and the Indian River are about ten minutes by car, and whale-watching trips go out from the coast. Hikes, horse riding and bird-watching start from the resort.
- Téya Wellness Sanctuary Seven thatched treatment huts round a pool of their own at the back of the resort, with a sauna and a yoga pavilion.
- RumFire Bar A bar built round a fire pit, pouring sixteen bush rums infused in the house.
- The bay Snorkelling from the resort's own beach, with a path to a second small cove and Douglas Bay Beach Park nearby.
