The hotel
Shophouses and fishing villages.
Anantara opened Lawana in January 2010, its second resort on Samui, on a strip of beach just north of Chaweng. The design looks back to the Chinese merchants who settled the island: the pool suites take their lines from the old shophouses of Nathon, the island's port, and the villas from the fishing villages along the coast. Four-poster beds and antique woodwork fill the rooms.
A full renovation followed in 2017, and the beachfront was rebuilt again and reopened in November 2024. Today there are 122 rooms and villas, many with a plunge pool of their own or a door onto a shared one. Chaweng's bars are a few minutes away, but the beach in front of the resort is its own. The Singing Bird Lounge turned up on screen in the third season of The White Lotus.

Flying to Koh Samui.
Samui Airport is about 6 kilometres away, some fifteen minutes by car by our estimate. Private jets also land at Samui, with parking and permits arranged ahead; Bangkok Don Mueang, an hour's flight away, is the alternative with a private terminal.
