The hotel
Kimpton's first address in Asia.
Kimpton Da An opened in March 2019, the first hotel of the American brand in Asia, built by Cornerstone Partners of Malaysia with IHG. The building was an apartment complex on a lane in Da'an, and the Shanghai architects Neri & Hu kept its residential feel. Lyndon Neri spoke of balancing a private space with a sense of community. In 2026 the MICHELIN Guide gave it one Key.
So the rooms are lined with plain white tiles, fine metalwork and furniture made for the hotel, while the shared spaces do the social work: a daily hour of wine and small plates in the lobby lounge, a communal honour bar and a terrace on the roof with views across the city. Upstairs, The Tavernist cooks with produce from Taiwanese organic farms.

Flying to Taipei.
Taoyuan International, forty kilometres west, is roughly 45 minutes to an hour by car, our estimate; Songshan, inside the city, is about a quarter of an hour, also our estimate. Business jets use the Huan Yu VIP Terminal at Taoyuan, where passengers are registered with immigration three days ahead.
