The hotel

The second hotel on Kawit Island.

NUSTAR Resort & Casino opened in May 2022 on Kawit Island, reclaimed land in the South Road Properties just off Cebu City. It is a joint venture between the city and Universal Hotels and Resorts, part of the Gokongwei Group. The Fili hotel came first. NUSTAR Hotel, its younger sibling, followed with a soft opening in May 2025, the second of three hotels planned for the site.

Hirsch Bedner Associates of Hong Kong designed the lobby lounge in a neoclassical spirit, with colonial columns and arches. The rooms upstairs are large by Philippine standards and face the sea or the city through full-length glass, and the marble bathrooms set the tub beside the window. In September 2026 the MICHELIN Guide gave the hotel its first Key, the only one in Cebu.

Flying to Cebu.

Mactan-Cebu International is about an hour away by car, across the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway. Private jets use the same airport, so the drive is the same, our estimate. The hotel arranges cars and vans from the airport for a fee.
