The hotel
Sixty years on Zakir Hussain Marg.
Rai Bahadur M S Oberoi had run hotels in Shimla and Kolkata for decades, but those he had taken over. This one, opened in 1965, was the first he built. It was also the first hotel in India with room service and butler service around the clock, and Café Espresso, its coffee shop, stayed open around the clock, which Delhi had not seen before.
In April 2016 the hotel closed for two years. Adam Tihany redesigned the interiors with Lutyens in mind, gave the 220 rooms more space and light, and fitted air filtration throughout. It reopened in 2018 with new restaurants on the roof, and the views over Humayun's Tomb, a UNESCO site, came back with it. In 2025 the hotel marked sixty years on the same site.
- Cirrus 9 An open-air bar on the roof, looking over the golf course and Humayun's Tomb.
- Two pools One indoors and one outdoors, both heated, with a gym open around the clock for residents.
- The Club Bar A bar with a cigar lounge off it, and a residents' lounge for hotel guests.
