The hotel

The hotel with a waterfall down its front.

The hotel began as the older Lijiang Hotel in the centre of Guilin. Rebuilt to five-star standard, it reopened in 2002 as the Lijiang Waterfall Hotel, named for the cascade built onto its façade. That same year Guinness World Records listed it as the largest man-made waterfall in the world. DK Eyewitness gives its height as 45 metres, and it falls down the face of the building toward the street.

The water is switched on every night, and the show can be watched from the street. The building has sixteen floors, and some of its rooms look toward the river. From the door it is a short walk to the Li River, Zhengyang Walking Street and Jingjiang Princes' City, with Elephant Trunk Hill nearby. Inside there are restaurants for five cuisines and a hall that seats six hundred for a meeting.

  • The nightly fall The waterfall runs every evening down the face of the building, best seen from the street outside.
  • In the old town Zhengyang Walking Street and Jingjiang Princes' City are within walking distance, the Li River close by.
  • Roof garden and pool A heated indoor pool, a sauna, a gym and a garden on the roof.
