The hotel

The palace in the sky.

Six Senses Bhutan is one journey in five lodges, at Thimphu, Paro, Punakha, Gangtey and Bumthang, and the MICHELIN Guide gives its Key to the five together. Thimphu is the lodge of the capital. It is built like a traditional palace on fifteen acres of hillside, which is why it is called the Palace in the Sky. It has twenty suites and five villas.

The lodge looks down on the Thimphu valley from the south, towards the great seated Buddha above the city. Inside, cloud motifs and floor-to-ceiling windows; outside, a reflecting pool with a sunken fire pit, where dinner is served in the courtyard. A separate wellness building holds the spa, a gym and a yoga room, and a prayer pavilion stands in the grounds.

  • Reflecting pool A long pool with a fire pit sunk into it, the centre of the courtyard at night.
  • Six Senses Spa Thimphu Steam, sauna, daily yoga and Bhutanese hot stone baths in a building of their own.
  • Five lodges Thimphu is one stop on a route through Six Senses lodges in Paro, Punakha, Gangtey and Bumthang.
