The hotel
Built around a dome.
Work on the Kigali Convention Centre began in 2009 and ended in 2016, at a cost of more than 300 million dollars. The German architect Roland Dieterle designed it, with a dome at its centre. The hotel and the conference halls share one site at the Kigali roundabout in Kimihurura, owned through a venture of Rwanda's social security board and private investors.
The building was ready for the African Union summit in July 2016, and the World Economic Forum on Africa met there the same year. In 2022 it hosted the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. Parliament, the Supreme Court and several embassies are close by, and the airport is a short drive east.
