The hotel

Rwanda's first Marriott.

The hotel took years to build and opened in October 2016, a little over a week after Marriott closed its purchase of Starwood. It was the group's first hotel in Rwanda. The building fills a whole block at the top of Kiyovu hill, in Nyarugenge, and rises eight floors above KN 3 Avenue.

Marriott hired about five hundred people for the opening, working with the Akilah Institute for Women and Women for Women International to train women for supervisory jobs. The kitchens buy local beef, poultry and vegetables, the lobby café pours coffee from smallholder farms, and a shop sells goods made in Rwanda.

  • Saray Spa Treatment rooms, a sauna and a steam bath, with a health club and group classes alongside.
  • Two pools An outdoor pool with the Sarabi bar beside it, and an indoor pool in the fitness area.
  • Rooms for meetings Fourteen meeting rooms in the building, seating about 1,720 people between them.
