The hotel
A Chedi on the Red Sea.
The Chedi El Gouna was built on the bones of an older beachfront hotel of 86 rooms, the third project between the Singapore group GHM and Orascom Hotels Management, which developed the town. Its square terracotta volumes take after the Nubian village and the Egyptian countryside, and the MICHELIN Guide notes how well they sit among El Gouna's own buildings. Today there are 82 rooms and suites, from garden rooms to a suite with its own water pond.
Inside, the mood turns to Asia: ebony and bamboo furniture, an earthy palette and plain, uncluttered rooms. The hotel took its first guests in December 2022 and became the first member of The Leading Hotels of the World in Egypt. It stands on a hill above its own beach, where the day runs to snorkelling, kayaking and diving, and its rooftop restaurant looks out over the Red Sea.
- Nihon on the roof Japanese and pan-Asian cooking on the top of the hotel, with the Red Sea in front.
- The spa Four single suites with steam showers, two couples' suites with whirlpool baths and two traditional hammams, for hotel guests.
- Private beach Cabanas and loungers on the sand, with snorkelling, paddleboards and kayaks, and kitesurfing and diving nearby.
