The hotel

A private house on the lagoon.

La Maison Bleue began as a guest house and dock for Samih Sawiris, the developer of El Gouna, a place to put up family and friends. The antiques collector Amr Khalil and the architect Olivier Sednaoui designed it together. They mixed Minoan murals, Catalan mosaics, Syrian arches and Venetian tiles behind a pastel blue façade that stands out against the desert sky.

Inside there are parquet floors, marble stairs, velvet curtains and crystal and porcelain chandeliers, with antiques of a collector's standard in every room. No two of the thirteen suites are alike. The house opened to paying guests as a hotel, joined Relais & Châteaux in 2024 and holds one MICHELIN Key in the 2026 selection.

  • The Roman spa A spa in the Roman manner with a sauna and hammam, and a marble-lined pool, heated, in the garden.
  • Mangroovy Beach The house keeps its own stretch of private sand on the lagoon at Mangroovy.
  • Painted walls Frescoes by local artists run through the public rooms and suites, under high ceilings.
